Not all Appenzeller puppies for sale are equal. Be an educated puppy buyer. Lots of Appenzeller Photos
A good breeder:
- Selects breeding pairs that have the greatest chance of producing healthy dogs with good temperament Planned Breedings
- Asks you a lot of questions before agreeing to place a dog with you
- Educates you with both positives and negatives about the breed
- NEVER sells to a pet store, dog broker or reseller
- ALWAYS provides OFA or Penn Hip clearances and numbers of parents
A smart consumer: Red Flags:
- Avoids breeders who fail to conduct genetic testing such as hip clearances - Breeder offers your choice among several different breeds of dogs
- Does not confuse high prices with a better dog - Breeder claims dogs are AKC-registered (the Appenzeller is AKC FSS only)
- Asks to see pedigrees of the sire and dam - Breeder is in the U.S. but does not offer AMDCA papers
- Asks for dog club references - Breeder offers papers from the following registries that are
not recognized by AMDCA:
1) FIC (Federation of International Canines)
2) CKC (Continental Kennel Club)
3) APR (America's Pet Registry)
